Moving your normal home to Ibiza from the UK, you can typically import your used household goods free of Spanish import duty and VAT under Spain’s Transfer of Residence relief, known as franquicia por traslado de residencia and administered by the Spanish tax authority. It applies where you have lived outside the EU for at least twelve months and have owned and used the goods for at least six. Ibiza falls fully within the standard Spanish customs territory, so there are no Balearics-specific customs rules, and the same process applies whether your destination is Madrid, Barcelona or a finca outside Santa Gertrudis.

Since Brexit, a move from the UK to Spain is a non-EU import, so your consignment now needs a UK export declaration on departure and a Spanish import clearance on arrival. Williams & Yates prepares both, and the itemised inventory compiled during packing is the basis of the documentation.

Your NIE, the Número de Identificación de Extranjero, is a hard prerequisite. Spanish customs will not release your goods without it, so the number must be in place before your consignment arrives rather than sorted once it is in transit. Applications can be made in Spain or through the Spanish Consulate in London, and appointment and issue times vary, so it is worth starting early. Around the household itself, your coordinator handles the surrounding detail as part of the same service. Secure storage is available in the UK if there is a gap before your Ibiza address is ready, which is worth bearing in mind through the summer, when property access and handover timings can be tight.
