Getting Your Home to Menorca: The Route
Menorca is an island, so your consignment travels overland to a mainland Spanish port and crosses to Maó, the island’s main commercial harbour, by ferry. The mainland ports serving Menorca are Barcelona and Valencia. Denia, which sails to the other Balearic islands, does not run a freight service to Menorca, so the routing is planned around the ports that do. Your coordinator selects the crossing that suits your consignment and your move date, and arranges it as part of the same service, so it is not a booking you make or a point at which responsibility for your move changes hands.
Ferry frequency is the seasonal point worth knowing. Sailings to Menorca run more often through the summer and thin out over winter, and summer is also when the island’s roads and delivery access are busiest. Booking your survey early gives your coordinator the room to plan your crossing and delivery around the schedule rather than around what is left. Transit times vary with the routing, the sailing schedule and customs clearance, so your coordinator confirms the likely timing for your consignment once the plan is set rather than quoting a fixed figure.

Where We Deliver on the Island
Much of Menorca’s appeal, and much of the delivery planning, lies in how its homes are reached.

Where the primary vehicle cannot reach the door, your coordinator arranges a smaller tranship vehicle for the final approach, planned at the survey rather than discovered on the day, so the delivery is calm and worked out in advance. Spanish Customs and Transfer of Residence Relief
Spanish Transfer of Residence relief allows you to bring your used household goods and personal effects to Menorca free of Spanish import duty and VAT when you move your normal residence to Spain. To qualify, the goods must have been owned and in use for at least six months, be for personal use rather than resale, and be imported within the window your coordinator will advise on.
Since Brexit, the UK sits outside the EU, so a move to Spain is a formal international customs process. The relief is claimed on the Spanish import declaration itself, under exemption codes 101 and C01, rather than through a separate prior application, and your coordinator prepares this as part of the move. The itemised inventory compiled as we pack is the foundation of that declaration, and vague descriptions are a common cause of customs delay, which is why we prepare the inventory thoroughly rather than leaving it to you.
Central to the paperwork is your NIE, the Número de Identificación de Extranjero, the identification number every foreign resident in Spain needs for customs clearance, opening a bank account and completing a property purchase. Timing matters. Your NIE should be in place before your goods arrive, as clearance can stall otherwise, so your coordinator advises on when your consignment should travel in relation to your arrival and residency registration. The wider documentation includes your passport, proof of your new Spanish residency, and that itemised inventory. Residency requirements for UK nationals have changed since Brexit, and you should seek independent legal advice on your own residency status.

Fine Art, Antiques and High-Value Collections
For homes that include fine art, antiques and objects that cannot be replaced, the handling matters as much as the logistics. A gilt-edged mirror travels in a bespoke crate and hangs from a batten fixed inside it, so nothing presses on the fragile edges, and a chandelier is dismantled by a specialist who wraps each crystal individually and reinstates the piece on arrival. Spanish customs, like most EU customs authorities, applies specific considerations to items classed as antiques, typically those over 100 years old, and to pieces incorporating materials from protected species, such as ivory, tortoiseshell or certain hardwoods, which require CITES documentation. We review your inventory at the survey stage and advise on the documentation each relevant piece needs, case by case, so nothing is discovered at port. A sole-use vehicle gives your move its own dedicated load, packed at your home and travelling directly to Menorca without being consolidated with other consignments. This is usually the choice for a full household, a high-value collection, or a move where the schedule needs to be confirmed rather than flexible, as everything travels and arrives together.

For a smaller volume or part-household move, a shared service lets your consignment travel alongside other households heading to Menorca on the same route, wrapped, inventoried and consolidated at our UK premises before departure. You use only the space your move requires, which suits moves where your timing allows some flexibility, as departure depends on the consolidation schedule.

Air Freight
When something needs to arrive ahead of your main consignment, air freight suits a smaller volume of priority items, from essential documents to a specific piece of furniture needed for immediate occupancy. It carries a higher cost by weight, so it is usually reserved for the pieces you need first, often sent in parallel with the road and ferry consignment carrying the bulk of your home.
Around the household itself, your coordinator handles the surrounding detail as part of the same service. Secure storage is available in the UK and in Spain, whether you need to hold part of your home while you settle or bridge a gap before a property purchase completes.
