Getting Your Home to Formentera: The Route
Because Formentera has no airport, all household goods reach the island by sea, and the journey runs in three legs that Williams & Yates coordinates as one managed move. Your consignment travels by road from the UK to a mainland Spanish port, crosses by ferry to Ibiza, where it is received before the final stage, and then makes the short onward ferry to La Savina, Formentera’s port, a passage of roughly half an hour. We work with established partners at the Ibiza stage, but your coordinator remains the single point of contact throughout, so your consignment is never passed to an unknown party or left to a team you have not spoken to. You never find yourself coordinating between a mainland haulier, an Ibiza agent and a Formentera delivery crew, and because every Formentera move routes through Ibiza, our removals to Ibiza service is its natural companion.
Access at the delivery address is confirmed from the outset. Some Formentera properties sit on narrow rural lanes or along approaches that call for a smaller transfer vehicle for the final stretch. Post-Brexit Customs and Your Move to Spain
Since Brexit, household goods moving from the UK to Spain are treated as a third-country import and are subject to Spanish customs requirements. Williams & Yates prepares the documentation for clearance through the Spanish customs authority, the AEAT. Formentera does not have a separate customs regime, so goods entering La Savina are cleared under the same Spanish process as goods entering any other Spanish port.
UK nationals establishing permanent residence in Spain may be eligible for Transfer of Residence relief, which allows used household goods and personal effects to be imported free of Spanish import duty and VAT, subject to eligibility. In broad terms, the relief applies where you have lived outside the EU for at least twelve consecutive months and have owned and used the goods for at least six months. It is claimed as part of the Spanish clearance process rather than granted automatically.
The NIE, your Número de Identidad de Extranjero, is a hard prerequisite for customs clearance, as Spanish customs will not release your consignment without it. Your coordinator advises on timing, as goods are best arriving once your NIE is in place, and prepares the supporting documentation, typically an itemised inventory, proof of residence and evidence of ownership, so you are not chasing paperwork at the Ibiza or Formentera stage. A number of items sit outside the relief or need advance attention, including alcohol above personal allowances, certain foods and controlled substances, and we review the inventory at the survey so nothing that should not travel goes into the consignment in the first place.

A sole-use container gives your move a private container loaded at your home and sealed until it reaches the Balearics. It is the most direct option for a full household, as your consignment travels on its own without waiting to be consolidated with other moves, so everything arrives together. This is usually the choice for larger Formentera homes and for clients who want a confirmed departure with no delays from consolidation.

Shared Container
For a smaller volume or a part-household move, a shared container consolidates your goods at our UK premises before the container is sealed. You use only the space your move requires, which suits moves where timing is flexible and the full volume of a private container is not needed.

Air Freight
When something needs to arrive ahead of your main consignment, air freight is available for a small volume of priority items. Because Formentera has no airport, air freight routes into Ibiza and crosses to the island by the same ferry link, so it suits documents and specific personal items rather than furniture. Your coordinator advises whether it is appropriate for what you need first.
Around the household itself, your coordinator handles the surrounding detail as part of the same service. Secure storage is available in the UK while your Formentera property is being prepared, or to bridge a gap before delivery access is possible, which can matter given the island’s seasonal considerations.
