Moving Your Safe as Part of a Full Relocation
A safe is often where a move splits in two. The removals company takes the house, and a safe engineer or locksmith is booked separately. You are left holding two schedules and two sets of contact details, for one item that has to leave the property on the same day as everything else.
Williams & Yates handle it inside the relocation instead. A safe specialist unbolts the safe at collection as one element of the wider move, arranged by the dedicated move coordinator already managing your packing, your consignment and your delivery. There is only one firm to brief, and the safe sits inside a single plan rather than between two providers.
On the day, a safe rarely comes out first or last. It comes out at the point in the sequence that suits the property, the access route and the loading of the vehicle. When the same team holds the whole plan, that sequence is decided in advance rather than negotiated between two companies in a hallway.
At the far end, the safe arrives with the rest of the consignment, into a delivery already planned around where each thing is going. It is reinstated in the position you have chosen rather than left standing in a hall until someone else can attend.
What Happens to the Contents of Your Safe
You empty the safe before collection day. Williams & Yates move and reinstate the safe unit itself, and the contents remain yours to transport separately. That division is agreed at survey, and it is simply how a safe is handled within one of our moves.
The safe is recorded at survey as an empty unit with a known weight and a known access route, so nothing about it needs revisiting on the day. Responsibility for the unit and for what was in it is settled well before anyone arrives.
An empty safe is also easier to move well. The weight comes down and the balance becomes predictable, so the specialist handling it knows exactly what they are working with from the moment it comes off its fixings.

How a Safe Is Unbolted, Moved and Reinstated
At collection, a safe specialist unbolts the safe from the floor. At the destination, the same work is carried out in reverse and the safe is reinstated in situ, including moving it between floors where the property requires it. Williams & Yates arrange both ends as part of the same move.
Reinstatement matters more than it might appear, because anchoring is built into how a safe is graded in the first place. The British and European standard for secure storage units, includes an anchoring strength test in how free-standing safes are classified for burglary resistance, alongside its tool attack testing. The performance a safe is rated for assumes it is properly fixed down, so putting it back correctly is part of the same job rather than something to arrange separately afterwards.
The physical handling is something we’re accustomed to. A safe is unbolted, secured to equipment matched to its weight rather than dragged or walked, and floors, thresholds and door frames are protected along the route.
If your destination is not ready to receive it, the safe does not have to travel straight into an empty house. It can be held in secure storage, monitored around the clock, until reinstatement can go ahead. Your coordinator will advise on timing.

On an international move, Williams & Yates move your safe within the same coordinated consignment as the rest of your household goods. It travels as an ordinary item of household effects, and your dedicated move coordinator handles the customs file and documentation for the whole consignment rather than arranging anything separately for the safe.

Can a Safe Be Moved Between Floors?
Yes. Moving a safe between floors is handled at collection and again at the destination by our team, alongside a safe specialist working alongside the move. The route is assessed at survey rather than on the day, so the equipment and access needed at both ends are known in advance.

Will My Safe Be Properly Reinstalled at My New Home?
Yes. The safe is reinstated in situ at the destination as standard, in the position you have chosen, as part of the same move that collected it. This matters because anchoring is part of how a free-standing safe is tested and graded under BS EN 1143-1:2019, so a safe that is not properly fixed down is not standing as its rating assumes.

Is My Safe Moved as Part of My Full Relocation, or Do I Need a Separate Specialist?
